The General Service Medal 1962 with Clasp "Northern Ireland"

The medal is granted to:

  • Officers and other ranks of HM Forces.

Qualifying conditions for UDR personnel for this award are:

a. Service of 30 days or more, not necessarily continuous, on land in Northern Ireland, between 14 August 1969 (inclusive) and a date to be decided later, as a member of The Ulster Defence Regiment or Service Reserve Forces on call out for permanent or emergency service in that area.

Many soldiers never received their medal due to "administrative errors."
